Niquet Julien

It is an hammerless shotgun with juxtaposed 20-gauge barrels. The locks are called “in front”.

The forearm is pumped. The engraving is called “bunching”.

The weapon bears the statutory hallmarks of the Liège proofhouse, namely:

ELG* in a crowned oval: definitive acceptance after 1893.

X*: Controller’s countermark, in use from 1877 to the present day.

Peron: inspection, in use from 1853 to the present day.

EL in English letters: provisional proof, in use from 1852 to the present day.

20 C in a diamond: calibre, in use from 1898 to 1924.

PV surmounted by a stylized lion: smokeless powder proof, in use from 1898 to 1968.

65 m/m /17.8: length of chamber in mm and diameter in mm after optional smokeless powder test. In use from 1892 to 1924.

P1K305.2: Barrel weight capable of firing smokeless powders (smooth weapons) in use from 1892 to 1924.

Choke 15.7 / 16.0 (if read?): choked barrels, calibrated in mm at 22 cm from the breech and at the mouth. In use from 1910 to 1924.

The weapon is marked with the name of the manufacturer, namely Julien Niquet, rue de l’Université, 44 in Liège. He worked from 1886 to 1919 and was replaced by Coune Joseph.
