As was quite common at that time Deprez Jean Mathieu, who was also a malleable and industrial smelter, had pasted his wife’s name (Joassart) after his in order to differentiate himself from the other Deprez quite numerous at the time.

He is the author of ten Belgian patents filed between 1857 and 1867.

No. 401 is a serial number.

The marks Deprez breveté is related to one of these patents.

The closure system (arm secured by a knurled screw) once opened allows the gun to be disassembled and accessed to the barrel.

This pepperbox revolver with open frame and vertical percussion (pinfire) is an invention of arms manufacturer DEPREZ (JOASSART) Jean Mathieu of Herstal. The initial patent carries the n° 14.026 and is dated from March 04, 1863.

This revolver with open framework and central percussion is an improvement of the revolver with percussion invented by DEPREZ (JOASSART) Jean Mathieu de Herstal. The initial patent carries the n° 6511 and is dated from the 23.09.1858. (See technical sketch in appendix)
