Whitaker was a small irish gunmaker (Limerick-Eire, about 1880 - 1920 cfr. Ch. Boothroyd - British gunmakers and Smith - Pistols)
The hammer's head was filed out probably by an independentist member of Free Eire during the '20es political mutinies.
