Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

Rissack Jean-Jacques
Here is a 6 mm ring percussion pistol clearly marked
by JJ RISSACK,
gunmaker who has already been the subject of notices on the site.
It is also mentioned on page 175 et seq. of the book
“Les armuriers liégeois dans dans leurs réalisations”
Volume 5 by Alain Daubresse.
We also see the letters
M & G
surmounted by a crown, attributed to
MAQUINAY and
GULIKERS: see page 244 of the book “Les
armuriers liégeois à travers leurs réalisations” by Alain Daubresse, volume 4,
where we see the same M & G brand under a crown.
The
pistol should therefore date from the period 1858-1860.
We also
see the ELG stamps on a star in oval (accepted between 1846 and 1893) and a
crowned U, countermark of a controller between 1853 and 1877. And a 701 number
on the handle, probably a manufacturing number.
I must admit that I do not see the relationship
between JJ RISSACK
on the one hand, and MAQUINAY and GULIKERS
on the other: one is perhaps the manufacturer or the inventor (but of what...)
and the other a reseller?
I also find the shape of the HAMMER a little...
"disappointing"... and certainly not pleasant to arm.
There's so much better!
The wood
setting is not perfect either, or is it due to age?
