Some of the most beautiful work of this craftsman, and many others, are in this book “Liège Gunmakers through their Work. 1800 - 1950”.

LEVAUX Guillaume

It acts of the good known revolver LEVAUX but as pocket format.

It is thus about a model “Top break” of calibre 320.

The trigger without trigger guard is folding under the frame.

The barrel is with eight sides.

The cylinder not grooved is to 6 chambers.

The simultaneous extraction of the casings is done by a disk-based system.

The grips are out of ebony.

The punches are those of the proofhouse of Liège, namely:

Spangled ELG in an oval: acceptance of 1846 to 1893.

G crowned: countermark of the controller, of use of 1853 to 1877.

Markings are:

ACIER FONDU (Crucible cast steel): without comment.

DDL BREVETE: indicate the intellectual property of Dieudonné LEVAUX.

LEPAGE BROTHERS A PARIS: it is about the marking of the Parisian retailer.

G. LEVAUX: also mark of Guillaume Levaux (born in 1844) arms manufacturer and who was the brother of Dieudonné. It is probable that it sub-contracted part of the production of his brother.

The other letters on the amounts of stick are unknown and are for me in all probability of markings of subcontractors of Liège.

Inventor LEVAUX Dieudonné (life 1845 to 1913) was a manufacturer in Liege (Blegny-Trembler). Its weapon will be patented the 30.11.1870 under the n° 028279 and will be followed of ten of other patents. Since 1870 Dieudonné works only and signs DDL Bté, about 1880, it joins his brother Jean Mathieu (1853/1827) and marking becomes LEVAUX Frères.
