Nagant 1878-86 Douane

This Nagant revolver model 1878/86 was adopted by the Belgian Customs. The only difference with the original model is the difference in the design of the barrel. Longitudinal grooves are replaced by elliptical grooves. The eight-sided barrel has four stripes on the right and a crescent front sigjt. Like model 1878/86, the grips are made of walnut and are attached to the carcass by a cross screw.

Its length is 266 mm, its weight is 1Kg90 and the calibre is 9 mm.

The markings are as follows:

Douane Belge (Belgian Customs) identifying the body of origin.

Brevet Nagant (Nagant patent): identifying the manufacturer i.e. the Nagant brothers in Liège.

EGB in a vertical oval + star: mark of the Belgian government, proof of the Manufacture d’Armes de l’Etat (State Arms Manufacture) rue Saint Léonard in Liège.

JD in a horizontal and crowned oval: initials of the Belgian government controller.

Double L crowned in a circle: L interlaced, mark of the Belgian government.

1092: gun number.

Small "a" in a circle  (read so well?): hallmark of a state inspector.
